Katherine Dunstan, Founder Boutique Equines, Customer Relationship Growth Professional & Digital Marketing Specialist
Like most entrepreneurs, it starts with chasing a dream of wanting to own and run something of your own. After working within the Equine Industry for over 15 years prior along with other professional roles outside and around it, it took a solo trip to Europe in 2014 (via the World Equestrian Games in Normandy of course) to make the jump, take the risk and back myself.
I knew there was a gap in the market for riders like myself when it came to rider preparation at events, I too was not well 'polished' whenever I trotted down the centre line. I knew I could do better, just needed some guidance on the HOW.
Commencing as a micro retailer with a German & Danish label this is how the Polished Look phenomenon began.
Boneo Park Summer CDI in 2015, a simple question from a well known rider today - Tayla Desmet, saw my sparkly hair accessories from afar and flew straight over. "Kath, how do I best put these in my hair?" & there it all began.
Who would have known being a hair stylist for riders at an event would be such a welcomed service? If only it was there for when I rode!
Polished Look consultations were in demand, growing show by show I attended, starting as early as 6am. At times, even when I was not trading with the business I was still being hired to drive to the event as for some riders I started to become their lucky charms!
I travelled heavily across Australia to major events - Sydney CDI, Brisbane CDI, Willinga Park Dressage by the Sea, Melbourne 3DE, Adelaide 3DE, Australian SJ Champs and Dressage & Jumping with the Stars, helping riders with their Polished Look's.
Fast forward 10+ years, not only is Boutique Equines renown for the Polished Look, it's also known for our commitment to riders being honest and trustworthy business to buy from.
Today we are still the proud distributors and retailers of the prestigious German brand - Otto Schumacher and built our own private label -Boutique Essentials - which the accessories range and Polished Look kits are wholesaled throughout Australia & New Zealand and found all over the world.
As business evolves, so too has what we have represented as agents and distributors over the time, we now focus solely on our why… supporting riders with their vision of their dream unique polished look all with a touch of boutique with the aim of making them feel great & ride with a smile.

After years of juggling scattered notes, whiteboards, group chats and the constant pressure of staying on top of everything, she recognised a gap in the industry that no one was addressing.Having competed and coached internationally, Nicole identified a consistent challenge across the equestrian world: passionate, dedicated riders being held back by outdated systems that simply couldn’t keep up with the demands of modern horse ownership and competition.
